What is the Wrangler 4xe?

November 24th, 2020 by

The Jeep Wrangler has been in the off-road game for decades now. From its World War II roots and introduction to the masses in 1986, the Wrangler has been and continues to be the main staple of off-roaders around the world. With legacy names like the Ford Bronco and the Land Rover Defender revived and back on the market, the off-road segment has never seen so much rivalry. For 2021, Jeep shows no fear towards the competition with the introduction of the first-ever 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe.

How powerful is the Wrangler 4xe?
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the first-ever Wrangler offered with a hybrid powertrain. Equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder PHEV and two separate electric motors paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Wrangler 4xe packs so much new technology into the same SUV everyone loves. However, the question on many people’s minds is whether or not the same off-road capability can come from an EV.

Take a look for yourself: The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has 470 lb-ft of torque, 375 horsepower, 10.8 inches of ground clearance, and up to 30 inches of water depth. All-electric, high-voltage components are sealed and waterproof. Wrangler 4xe’s two-speed transfer case enables full-time four-wheel driving, allowing you to hit the trails anytime with ease. Even more surprising, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe can hit 0-60 mph in just six seconds, making it the quickest Wrangler ever.

Is it fuel efficient?
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is just as capable as the gas-powered Wrangler on-road and off-road. Jeep estimates that the Wrangler 4xe will achieve a 50 MPGe rating with a total driving range of up to 400 miles. Jeep Wrangler 4xe has three different drive mode settings to choose from, giving the driver complete control of whether they want strictly electric power or traditional gasoline power. Select Electric Mode to use the 25 miles of electric range from a full charge. Select Hybrid Mode to get the best of both worlds and use both engines to maximize your range. E-Save Mode lets you hold off your battery power whenever you choose to use the electric power.

Timeless Style & Charging Capabilities
As this model is paired with regenerative braking, Jeep Wrangler 4xe is always working to maximize your battery power and range. The Wrangler 4xe keeps the same timeless styling found on the standard Wrangler model but adds distinct electric blue accents to the exterior and interior. Charging is easy on the Wrangler 4xe. Located on the front left cowl, the charge port has an LED indicator light showing the battery charge level. The best part? Every Jeep Wrangler 4xe can be plugged into a standard 120-watt plug. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe will only be available in a 4-door body style and in three trim levels: Base 4xe, Sahara 4xe, and Rubicon 4xe. Pricing has yet to be released, but we tentatively expect that the Wrangler 4xe will be available for cruising down Fayetteville streets early next year.
