The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - it takes you everywhere
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a four-door convertible SUV manufactured by the DaimlerChrysler Corporation. Launched at the 2006 New York International Auto Show, it is the first four-door Wrangler in Jeep’s history that spans 65 glorious years.
Available in 2-wheel drive (2WD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD) versions, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited can seat up to five passengers.
It is available in three models: the base X, Sahara, and Rubicon. For 2007, the Wrangler Unlimited has its wheelbase extended by 20 inches to accommodate the extra set of doors.
The Unlimited comes with a basic limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles. It competes with the likes of Nissan Xterra, Toyota FJ Cruiser, and HUMMER H3.
Engine and Performance
Comes with a powerful engine
All trims of the Wrangler Unlimited derive power from a 3.8-liter V6 engine, which delivers 202 hp and 237 lb-ft. of torque.
The engine is linked to a standard 6-speed manual transmission, though the option of a 4-speed automatic transmission is also available.
Walk-around
You can’t miss its sturdy and athletic looks
The Wrangler Unlimited looks rugged, muscular, and powerful enough to take on difficult rocky terrains. All trims ride on a wheelbase of 116 inches, while their length varies. The base X measures 183 inches and the Sahara and Rubicon measure 184.4 inches.
The front fascia of all trims is marked by an impressive body-color grille, impact-resistant clear-lens halogen headlamps, two halogen fog lamps integrated into the front bumper, and a removable front air dam.
Prominent fender flares further accentuate the Wrangler Unlimited’s athletic looks. Side steps with textured diamond plate surface pattern are standard on Sahara, and optional on the X and Rubicon models.
All models feature standard removable full-framed doors with light-tinted roll-up windows. All models are also available with the option of removable half-framed doors with soft-top style zip-out windows, but they require a soft-top.
All models come standard with a Sunrider Soft Top, made of 3-ply sailcloth. All trims are also available with the option of Freedom Top, a 3-piece modular hardtop with rear wiper/washer and rear defroster, full-framed doors, and deep-tinted glass. This top is made from fiberglass. The option of Dual-Top Group with Freedom Top hardtop and Sunrider Soft Top in the same color with full-framed doors and deep-tinted glass is also available on all trims.
The Wrangler Unlimited X wears standard 16-inch Slot Spoke Styled Steel painted Argent wheels. The X models are also available with the option of 16-inch Tech Spoke Cast-Aluminum painted Sparkle Silver wheels. The Sahara comes standard with 17-inch Moab Cast-Aluminum painted Sparkle Silver wheels, which are optional on the X trim. The Rubicon features standard 17-inch Moab Cast-Aluminum with Machined Face wheels. The Wrangler Unlimited Sahara is also available with the option of 18-inch Gladiator Cast-Aluminum painted Sparkle Silver wheels.
Comfort, Controls & Convenience
Comfortable as never before
All models of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited come with comfortable and versatile interiors that can seat a maximum of five passengers.
All models of the Wrangler Unlimited feature a 4-way manual height adjuster for the driver’s seat and split-folding 60/40 rear seat with self-articulating head restraints. The X trim comes standard with cloth-trimmed seats, while Sahara and Rubicon offer more convenience with YES Essentials fabric-trimmed seats.
All trims feature manual air-conditioning, which maintains a moderate temperature inside the Jeep’s cabin. Also standard is a floor console with front and rear cup holders, storage bin, and armrests.
Instrumentation comprises a compass, temperature indicator, and a mini-trip display, which includes gauges for average fuel economy, distance to empty, or elapsed time.
A Power Convenience Group, which includes power locks, power windows, a remote keyless entry system, and a security alarm is standard on Sahara, and optional on the X and Rubicon.
For entertainment, all trims of the Wrangler Unlimited come standard with an AM/FM stereo with CD player and auxiliary jack. All trims are offered with the option of SIRIUS Satellite Radio and an AM/FM stereo with 6-disc CD/DVD changer and auxiliary jack. The X models come standard with six speakers, while the Sahara and Rubicon feature seven Infinity speakers, including subwoofer, and a 368-watt high-power amplifier, optional on the X models.
The Sahara and Rubicon are also available with the option of MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System with AM/FM stereo, CD/DVD, 20GB Hard-Disc Drive (HDD) GPS Navigation, auxiliary jack, USB port, 6.5-inch touch TFT screen, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, dual FM tuner, Gracenote digital music jukebox, and media storage.
The Wrangler Unlimited can tow up to 3,500 pounds, when properly equipped. All trims are also available with the option of a Trailer Tow Group, which includes Class II receiver hitch, 4-pin adapter, Dana 44 heavy-duty solid rear axle, and a 4.10:1 axle ratio.
Driving Impressions
Incredibly good driving dynamics
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited offers an improved ride handling and a responsive steering. All models get power from a 3.8-liter V6 engine, which churns out 202 hp and 237 lb-ft. torque. It maintains higher torque at speeds above 3,400 rpm, and allows for an expanded operating range. The engine is quiet and light, yet provides impressive acceleration. It is maneuvered by a recirculating ball steering wheel, which gives quick and direct responses.
The Wrangler Unlimited rides on five-link front and rear suspension, which consists of live axles. Together they decrease steering wheel movement over rugged terrain and make the vehicle more stable overall. Sharp front and rear disc brakes provide forceful stopping power and short stopping distances to all trims. All trims are blessed with quiet driving characteristics and advanced shock tuning. Also standard are a new cross-car steering linkage and electronic throttle control.
The Unlimited also features an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which includes hydraulic brake assist, traction control, and Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM). ESP helps the driver stay on course by applying selective braking and engine control, within the limits of available traction.
The Rubicon comes equipped with a Rock Trac 4X4 System, which offers enhanced control and torque. The Rock Trac 4X4 System includes flanged front and rear output shafts mated with constant velocity joints. This system prepares the Rubicon to meet the demanding durability requirements of an intense off-road vehicle. A low-gear ratio allows Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon to crawl at a lower speed but with a greater increase in torque at the wheels, which allows it to trek over large rocks and timber easily.
All 4WD models of the Wrangler Unlimited, except for the Rubicon, feature a Command-Trac 4X4 System, which continues as a part-time system when 4WD is not required, for example, on a dry pavement. For added structural stiffness, the main case joint is clamped by 18 bolts.
With a turning diameter of 41.3 feet, the Jeep is a little difficult to be driven or parked in tight spots, but a ground clearance of more than 8 inches compensates for it. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited proves its mettle as an off-road vehicle.
Safety
Engineered to ensure your safety
The Wrangler Unlimited has earned a five-star rating, the highest, for frontal-impact crash test from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
All trims feature crush zones, which are designed to help manage energy impact and divert it away from the passenger compartment in the event of an accident. These crush zones include blow-molded plastic bumpers, tubular rail extensions, and crush cans that manage the energy for frontal impacts of up to eight miles per hour before the rail extensions deform.
All trims come standard with advanced multistage airbags for the driver and front-passenger with an Occupant Classification System. Supplemental side front seat-mounted airbags are optional on all trims.
Some safety features standard on all trims include 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with on/off road calibration, anti-theft engine immobilizer, and an Electronic Stability Program, which includes brake assist, all-speed traction control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, and on/off-road brake lock differentials. The option of a remote keyless entry is also available on all trims.
