The Jeep Wrangler 2007 is introduced with revised styling cues and new safety features. It is bigger and better than ever.
This truck-based sport-utility vehicle is able to tow more weight. Its true capability is as an off-road vehicle. It is sturdier all around due to their truck-derived hardware. The improvements to the ride, handling, and powertrain are apparent. According to Jeep the powertrain sits inside a frame and is stiffer.
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler has better ground clearance, larger wheels, and broader tires. The Wrangler offers four-door and two-door versions. The trim levels are Wrangler X, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Engine and Performance
Upgraded 3.8-liter engine
For 2007, the Wrangler gets a sturdier, quieter, lighter, and better 3.8-liter V6 engine that generates 202 hp and 237 lb-ft. of torque. The conventional standard four cylinder engine is no longer offered. A six-speed manual transmission is also new for the 2007 Wrangler. The four-speed automatic transmission continues as an option.
Performance is the notable change in the 2007 Wrangler due to a stiffer frame, 50 percent stiffer body, improved suspension, a two-inch longer wheelbase, and a 3.5-inch wider track. Jeep has also added sound-deadening materials it claims will reduce cabin noise by more than 20 percent.
The Jeep trail-rating badge claims that the vehicle as it is currently designed meets the five off-road performance categories such as traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water fording. The option of 4-doors and 2-doors are available in all three trim levels.
Walk-around
SUV cruiser
Even if Jeep consistently keeps adding newer features every year to achieve a fancy look, the Wrangler is still a hard off roader, with the unmistakable Jeep 7-slot grille, wide fender flares, and an open air driving capacity.
The biggest improvement to the exterior is the three-piece modular and removable hard top, which makes the Jeep Wrangler easier to change from enclosed roof to open-air beach cruiser. A soft top is standard. The hardtop comes as an optional. The exterior is styled with classic round headlights, the signature seven-slot grille, trapezoid wheel flares, exposed forged hinges, a fold-down windshield, and removable tops and doors.
The Wrangler can seat four occupants. The Wrangler 2-door rear seat passenger area is roomier than the 4-door version. The cargo floor is high and wide. The gauges are easy to read. The chassis was stretched by a massive 95.4 inches in its wheelbase reaching a grand total of 162.9 inches in length.
Comfort, Controls & Convenience
Comfortable interior upgrades
Wrangler seats are firm and comfortable and its doors open to an angle of 90 degrees. The Wrangler possesses a unique stain resistant vinyl trimmed seat. The roof bar-mounted speakers and other electrical bits are weather-proof. Even with cloth seats the Wrangler still has a “wash-out interior”.
The standard features include low-back bucket seats, easy access passenger seat, reclining front seats, tinted front door glass, full metal doors with roll-up windows, variable intermittent windshield wipers, accent-colored fender flares, body-colored grille, power steering, tilt steering column, AM/FM stereo radio with in-dash CD player and also MP3 capability with 6 speakers.
The optional key features available are a keyless entry, an organized center console that includes a powerful waterproof stereo system with aux-in input, revised HVAC controls, MYGIG multimedia infotainment system, YES Essentials fabric trimmed seats, and the all-important power windows.
Driving Impressions
An active drive
One of the visible upgrades in the 2007 Jeep Wrangler is its handling. The new Wrangler is supported by a five-link solid axle front and rear suspension that provides you with a steadier off-road and an optimum highway drive. This type of suspension along with a electronic front sway bar allows you to drive over rocky terrain without breaking a sweat. In addition to this, traction control is standard with the Wrangler.
The power steering is quick and the lower spring rates provide a softer, more comfortable on-road experience. The engine sounds curt while accelerating, but is quiet while you are cruising. In the soft top version, the wind, road, and traffic noise intrudes the peace of the cabin. The hardtop calms things, but by no large measure, and its hard-surface headliner leaves cabin vulnerable to empty-drum echoing.
Safety
Assuring a five star safety
The Wrangler 2007 demands high safety. It has optional power windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The all new 2007 Jeep® Wrangler earned five-stars in the U.S. Government's highest rating for driver and front passenger front-impact crash testing.
A full range of safety and security features come standard with all trims of the Jeep Wrangler, including advanced front air bags, an electronic stability program (ESP), an all-speed traction control, and an electronic roll mitigation. There are also new standard anti-lock brakes and an anti-skid system with rollover sensors that have been introduced. New options include front-seat side airbags that protect the torso and head of the driver and front passenger.
